continuing work on the ahrens’ triptych: each canvas got two coats of gesso — one to prime the raw canvas, and one to add texture (lisa calls it “frosting”). then i block the background in with acrylics, quickly and with a fat brush.
my sister’s very cool in-laws, the ahrens family of oahu, hawaii, have commissioned a large abstract coral triptych. the three panels are each 48″ x 14″. i ordered extra thick stretcher bars from dick blick and unprimed canvas from bigduckcanvas.com. my mom cindy came down for a visit and helped me stretch them.
